Examen during Lockdown

The purpose of having a SEN conference is to get us all together to share our interest in The Exercises of St Ignatius. We find it a joy to network with others and hence be encouraged again to remember the effect of The Exercises which have helped in our relationship with God.

Sadly this has been postponed for a year and one way of responding to this is to see where God’s hand is in this present time of us all keeping social distance. After all WE are created to praise reverence and serve God for the benefit of our souls.

First look at all the mixture of feelings that are within me at this time and just name them with no judgement.

May I suggest we use the following Examen prayer to find God’s loving spirit then follow it and also notice what the enemy spirit is trying to drive you to, so that you can reject that push?

Where am I finding God in this present time?
What is giving me life and what am I truly feeling so grateful for?
Where am I being moved towards praising God?
What am I being called to?
What is my anxiety in the present moment about that I need to listen to?
What is God inviting me to?

Where am I finding an enemy spirit or voice at the moment?
Where is my anxiety about the unknown or future that I need to ignore?
What is depleting me?
Where am I finding the unloving spirit within me?
What am I being driven to?

It’s only as we listen to these voices yet follow the more loving way that we can find the best way through the present time and find meaning. The SEN committee are also listening to God’s invitation to us with the postponement of the conference and finding God in all things.
